What is it with the aggression of the youth today?

A few weeks ago, here in Tuguegarao, I was witness to a brief scuffle (and perhaps one of the bloodiest) between two St. Paul High School students. It was like David and Goliath, only Goliath gained the upper hand. What's worse was "Goliath" even used a large stone to strike "David"'s head. Fortunately, a policeman managed to separate the two, "David" was rushed to the hospital and "Goliath" was taken into custody.

A week or so later, the parents were looking for the storeowner (there is a tiangge near St. Paul's called Nancy's Square and a host of other services) who was kind enough to give an ice pack to the bloodied boy. They dropped by my stall and told them I wasn't the one. When I asked about how their son is, the parents said that he's ok.

I'm not sure what the reason was for that fight. But was it really enough to even use a large stone against a smaller person. Much less a high school scrawny kid?

I was taken aback by that event. Even with all my dreams of teaching my son Kyokushin Karate, reality dawned upon me. I was more worried than ever. Will that be enough for him to adequately defend himself? But if it is enough, I'm also worried that my son might use it for all the wrong reasons, like getting into brawls.

I guess I'l have to wait and see. And always hope for the best. No one wants to see the children get hurt.

The Old Boy

So, why the title The Old Boy? I got that title from a manga series of the same title. NO, I wasn't imprisoned and no one is out to get revenge on me and I'm not out to do the same.

I'm turning 32 this year. So many things have passed me by and it's hard to believe that my life has passed me by very quickly.

I feel like it was just yesterday that my girlfriend said "I feel the same way, too" when I told her I like her very much. That was after we watched Moulin Rouge at Robinson's Ermita on the evening of August 13, 2001.

Suddenly, I have a wife and a wonderful baby boy who is already 1 year and 9 months as of writing this blog. I love my kid and I'm very proud of him. Right now, he just grabbed my fingers and and pulled me while saying "diiii-tuuuu, diiii-tuuuu!" He wants me to play with him now. Hahaha

I just quit my job last year and right now I'm managing my sister-in-law's pasta business. I also have a business back in Manila (I'm in Cagayan Valley right now) along with some of my old office mates.

Looks like I'll finish this post later... my son wants to play with me now.
